Poem: The Unknown

As the world grew dark in the strength of day
and the screams of death overwhelmed the sky
only he stood up with his sword held high
and invaders slew. It is what they say.

Yet I saw, took note, of one thing back then,
something you’ve not seen, are too young to know:
He was strong and brave when he met his foe,
yet he offered terms. I can’t comprehend.

So the battle raged and we won our souls.
The invaders fled, but they shook his hand.
So we’re free and safe, and we kept our land.
Yet what deal was made? In this tale are holes.
