No More

BY DR. AGONSON

I thought I said goodbye,
and when we’d say hello,
I’d have no cause to sigh;
but I have sunk below.

No chance I say,
—no more, no more—
my heart is dead,
it beats no more.

Savaged by memories—
who left? It was not I.
Dark night’s broke by my pleas,
a never ending cry.

Hell spirals down
—no more, no more—
I’ve touched the flame;
it burns no more.

Cinder is all that’s left.
A breeze blows me away.
And was it not your breath?
Or what I had to say?

Upon the wind
—no more, no more—
I travel on,
and I’m no more.
