To a Friend

by Dr. Agonson

Forgive me my dear Friend,
but I chose this for my own end.
Repent I not, for joy is mine,
and song doth flood my soul.

Sorrow not for all is well;
Weep only if’t for Joy.
I lived a life apart from hate,
and lived a life what’s full.

Away send me, and look not back.
Before you I will go,
to fields ripe of all bounty known,
to chilling dew and warming Son,
To listless and to matchless love,

The rest for me is only rest,
and then one day to be again
with you, my loved and dear friend.
